Abstract: The advent of modern power electronic converters like generic DC to newlineDC converters, Power Factor Corrected AC to DC rectifiers, and active front newlineend rectifiers has paved the way for building precise, custom-designed DC newlinemotor drives for different industrial applications. newlineIn this research the advantages of driving the separately excited DC newlinemotor employing a series compensated buck boost converter (SCBBC) are newlinebrought out. It has been established that for the same amount of power to be newlinedelivered to the motor, the SCBBC offers better power conversion efficacy. newlineAs compared to the conventional boost converter, the proposed SCBBC offers newlinemore efficiency, and for the same working conditions, the standard boost newlineconverter and the SCBBC showed power conversion efficiency of 62.25% newlineand 85.56%, respectively. In this work, it has also been demonstrated how the newlineSSBBC is used for collecting solar photovoltaic energy and also for charging newlinea battery. For driving the armature, a push-pull converter is used. newlineFurther, the sliding mode controller for maximum power point tracking newline(MPPT) as implemented in the SCBBC is demonstrated. Also, a novel drive newlinefor the permanent magnet DC (PMDC) motor is presented. The proposed newlinedrive for the PMDC motor uses the Inverse Watkins-Johnson Converter newline(IWJC). This converter has been used for the forward and reverse operations newlineof the PMDC motor. newlineSimulation of the sliding mode controller-based MPPT for solar newlinephotovoltaic energy harvesting systems was done in MATLAB/Simulink. newlineExperimental verification was also carried out. newline
