Abstract: The present study deals with the Historical Perspective of Kargil War. The Kargil war was a watershed moment in recent times as it was the first war that the millennial generation of Indians was exposed to. The war being first of a kind is significant in terms of facts that India and Pakistan were fully equipped with the nuclear power before the culmination of the war and the role of media during the war was dynamic and spirited. Thus, it becomes important to study the historical facet of the Kargil war along with its socio-economic and psychological aspects that comes along with it. Some of the variables like the Kashmir issue, Kargil war and its ramifications and fallout, wartime role of media and its impact have been selected to focus upon. A questionnaire was prepared and personal interviews and few case studies of Kargil war widows were conducted by the researcher. A sample of thirty Kargil war widows hailing from Haryana has been taken into consideration. The conclusions were drawn from the responses of the respondents. Through such methods the socio-economic as well as psychological conditions of the Kargil war widows have been discussed and analysed at large. Various primary as well as secondary sources including contemporary newspapers, military literature, government reports, parliamentary papers, various treaties, agreements, and accords signed between India and Pakistan has been studied and analysed extensively. newline
