Abstract: | Water is a transparent fluid and is considered as an elixir of life. Importance of water is universally recognised and is essential for all life forms. Textile industry is one of the major industries which consumes large quantum of water for various processes. Application of the dye to the fabric requires dye bath, in which 10-15% of the dye remains in water after the dyeing of the fabric, due to the non attachment of the dye to the fabric as the process is not completely efficient. As a result, the effluents released from textile industry are highly colored even when small concentration of residual dye is present in it. Proper treatment for color removal is required before it is finally disposed into the main water stream. For the present study, Tapered Fluidized Bed Reactor (TFBR) was selected for color removal. Adsorption studies were made by analysing parameters like amount of dye adsorbent at time qt , amount of dye adsorbed at equilibrium qe and dye removal percentage (R%). The adsorption data for all the five dyes was fitted to Intraparticle diffusion model, pseudo-first-order model, pseudo- second-order model and Elovich model. For AR 183 and AB 129 dye, the data followed pseudo-first-order model indicating physisorption, and for AY 25, AB 29 and MB dye it followed pseudo-second-order model indicating chemisorptions. For all the dyes, data also fitted well to Intraparticle and Elovich models. newline |
