Abstract: This thesis endeavors to engineer and synthesize biocompatible theranostic nanomaterials, newlineaiming to surpass the efficiency of conventional imaging probes and drug carriers. In this newlineparticular investigation, the focus was directed towards carbon-decorated ferrite nanodots newlineas the chosen material. The surface of these nanodots underwent a deliberate engineering newlineprocess with the objective of enhancing their physicochemical properties. This engineering newlineaimed to optimize characteristics such as stability, and compatibility, thereby contributing newlineto the overall effectiveness and versatility of the nanodots in potential applications. The newlinestudy also concentrated on investigating the factors that are important in optimizing the newlineefficiency of nanoparticles to act as imaging probes and drug carriers. The imaging ability newlineof the nanoparticles was tested with 3T MRI scanner and small animal optical imaging newlinesystem using phantom models. The biocompatibility was evaluated using cell viability newlineassay, hemolysis assay, and in vivo studies using zebrafish embryo. Overall, the studies newlineestablished the theranostic approach of engineered nanostructures with reduced toxicity. newline
