This research delves into the reasons behind migration in Ladakh, examining economic, social, and environmental factors influencing the shift from rural to urban areas. The study is crucial given the significant changes in recent decades, especially the transition from an agriculture-based society to a growing non-agricultural economy driven by globalization, tourism, and related businesses in Ladakh. The impact of migration is not only felt in the rural areas but also in the urban center of Leh town, leading to challenges like overcrowding, housing shortages, and pollution. The research sheds light on the complex effects of migration on communities, emphasizing the consequences in both rural and urban settings. It highlights that while urban areas offer appealing economic opportunities, rural Ladakh is grappling with depopulation and the gradual erosion of traditional social values. To address the challenges posed by migration, the study aims to provide insights for policymakers to develop comprehensive and targeted policies. The focus is on promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth in both rural and urban areas. This research contributes to the existing literature on migration, particularly in mountainous regions and small communities, aiming to broaden scholarly understanding of this important phenomenon. newline
