Abstract: Intracranial Hypertension is a life-threatening neurological condition that results from an increase in the intracranial pressure (ICP). A fluid called cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) flows in the brain and spinal cord. In case of some disease or injury in the brain, CSF drainage is blocked resulting in increased ICP in central-nervous system. Normalizing the pressure demands treating the concerned disorder which requires efficient monitoring of the ICP values. If the ICP increase is not addressed properly, then it can even lead to herniation where the brain tissues overshoot out of brain, breaking the skull. Thus, a continuous monitoring of ICP is required in the arenas of neurology and neurosurgery to avert intracranial hypertension. newlineThe present ICP monitoring techniques involve a catheter-based approach for CSF regulation or pressure measurement. These can cause infection, impact patient mobility and also cause inconvenience. Thus, a more reliable and convenient monitoring approach should be looked upon. MEMS (micro-electro-mechanical systems) technology is a very significant tool for development of small sensors which are portable, efficient and reliable. Henceforth, the purpose of this research is to propose a MEMS resonant pressure sensor suitable for ICP measurement. The proposed pressure sensor is a miniaturized sensor suitable for minimally invasive lumbar puncture approach of ICP evaluation. newline
