dc.description.abstractThe study examined the selected components of human resource management i.e. human resource planning, recruitment, training, promotion and employees performance appraisal of non-gazette police personnel in Punjab Police. It was found that there was absence of systematic human resource planning in police in Punjab. Further, the process of recruitment has not been revised according to the requirements of police in Punjab. The recruitment process of police personnel in Punjab have been found to be suffering from several inadequacies such as absence of recruitment policy, absence of recruitment plan, ambiguity about selection criteria. The undue political pressure, further, eclipses the faulty selection procedure. There has been a mismatch between the training system and operational requirements of police in Punjab since more emphasis is on physical training than on mental training. In globalization era, the nature of policing has undergone tremendous transformations. Hence, there is need to redefine the methods and techniques of training of police personnel. The police should be trained to adopt humanistic approach to tackle crimes and criminals. The promotion system of police in Punjab is not objective. An adequate promotion policy based on well- defined performance appraisal system ensures objectivity in promotion granted to the employees. newline
