Switched Mode Power Supplies (SMPS) are a fundamental component of power electronics, responsible for converting and regulating electrical power efficiently. They are widely used in various applications, including electronic devices, computers, telecommunications equipment, industrial machinery etc. The advantages of SMPSs over linear power supplies include higher efficiency, smaller size, lighter weight, and greater flexibility in terms of input voltage range. There are various power quality issues in SMPS like harmonic distortion, voltage fluctuations and flicker, Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI), and Power Factor Correction (PFC) due to their high frequency switching operation and non-linear characteristics. To address these power quality issues, proper design and implementation of SMPSs are required. Techniques such as EMI filters, shielding, isolation transformers, Active Power Factor Correction, and careful component selection can help mitigate these issues and ensure reliable and high-quality power supply from SMPSs. PFC is a technique used in power electronics to improve the power factor of devices and reduce reactive power consumption from the mains. Active PFC employs active control techniques to dynamically shape the input current waveform and achieve high power factor correction. The single-stage PFC circuit combines the functions of input rectification, power factor correction, and output voltage regulation into a single conversion stage. This approach offers advantages such as reduced component count, lower system cost, and improved overall efficiency. newline
