Abstract: | Microwave Tomography Imaging System (MWTIS) is an innovative and emerging technology that has the potential to revolutionize the medical imaging and this system utilizes electromagnetic waves in the microwave frequency range to produce the images of internal organs and tissues of the human body. Unlike the traditional medical imaging techniques such as X-rays, Computed Tomography scans, and Magnetic Resonance Imaging scans, MWTIS is non-invasive, safe, and relatively inexpensive. MWTIS works on the principle of microwave propagation through tissues. The system then measures the transmitted and scattered waves, and uses sophisticated algorithms to reconstruct an image of the internal structure of the body. MWTIS has shown promising results in the diagnosis and monitoring of various medical conditions, including breast cancer, stroke, and lung diseases. Despite its many advantages, the technology faces several challenges, including the need of improved resolution, the development of more efficient and accurate reconstruction algorithms, and the need of validation in large-scale clinical trials. It is challenging to obtain a distinctive solution from the limited data, when solving a linear system of equations with a vast number of unknown variables, during the image reconstruction process. This affects the quality of image, particularly in locating malignant or stroke nearer to highly complex tissue regions such as fibroglands in the breast and grey matter in the brain. newline |
