Abstract: In the 19th century India produced a galaxy of great men who have enriched our national Educational system by their talent and personality. Swami Vivekananda was one of them. Vivekananda believed in essential unity of man and God. newline Swami Vivekananda, a great monk, social reformer, a great Vedanta s, patriot prophet of India and educationist sought to modernize the nation in the educational, social and cultural arenas. His contribution to educational thought is of paramount importance. He defined education is the manifestation of perfection that is already in man. Swami Vivekananda opines that, education is a continuous process and it should cover all aspects of life physical, material, intellectual, emotional, moral, and spiritual. His attitude towards modernization was that the people should be educated first. He had a true vision of the philosophy of education in India and its cultural context. Swami Vivekananda stressed that education for peace must aim to reform humanity so as to permit the inner development of human personality and to develop a more conscious vision of the mission of mankind and the present conditions of social life. newline Equilibrium and synthesis were the watchwords of Vivekananda. He advocated women s education, mass education, free and compulsory education and adult education. Vivekananda stressed on the cultivation of purity and fraternity. He believed that everyone should have liberty of thought, discussion, food, dress etc. He was a supporter of equality of all men and pleaded for the abolition of caste and class privileges. newlineThis study was an in-depth analysis of various works and writings of Swami Vivekananda. The study has been carried out to analyses the various educational views of Swami Vivekananda and to estimate the relevance of educational thought and ideas in the present contest with a view to prepare a value based education system. newlineWe are living in an era of modern age.
