Development of phosphor has been a key to the growth of several newlinetechnologies such as lighting, display and radiation dosimetry applications. newlinePhosphors are solid or polycrystalline material that emits light upon excitation newlineranging from violet to red. In recent years, phosphors are highly used in newlinefabricating dosimeters and WLEDs which replaces fluorescent lamps and newlineincandescent bulbs because of its less power consumption, non-toxic nature newlineand long life time. White light can be produced by combining blue, green and newlinered emitting phosphor. Hence developing novel phosphors for WLEDs have newlinebecome attractive research area. The aim of the present thesis is to study the newlinephotoluminescence and thermoluminescence properties of rare-earth (Eu3+ newline, newlineDy3+, Tb3+ and Pr3+) doped KCaF3 and Na3Bi5(PO4)6 phosphor synthesized by newlinestandard solid state reaction method. newlineThe first chapter gives the brief introduction to phosphor, newlineluminescence, photoluminescence, thermoluminescence and their mechanism. newlineThe importance of photoluminescence and thermoluminescence has been newlineexplained for the applications of WLED and radiation dosimetry. newlineAdditionally, the real time applications based on photoluminescence and newlinethermoluminescence has been discussed in detail. newline
