Abstract: | The study, quotNRI Marriages and Abandoned Women in Punjab: Issues, Responses, and Continuing Challenges, quot focuses on the issues faced by women, abandoned by their NRI husbands in the state of Punjab. The research is comprehensive, covering not only the issues faced by abandoned women but also the ongoing challenges they encounter in their day today life. newlineAssessing the socio-economic profile of the respondents and their spouses, the study sheds light on how education, income levels, and familial support impact the lives of these women in facing the challenges associated with abandonment. It further analyses the various forms of violence to which these women have been subjected both pre abandonment and post abandonment, as well as the causes of both violence and abandonment. Dowry emerged as one of the major causes of both. The research reveals how multiple forms of violence intersect to create a web of abuse. The case studies provide an insight into the life and struggles of women who have experienced abandonment in an NRI marriage. These case studies add a personal dimension to the broader analysis, illustrating the real-life consequences of the issues explored throughout the thesis. newlineAdditionally, the thesis also examines the schemes and programs available to support abandoned women in Punjab. It assesses the effectiveness of government initiatives, legal frameworks, and services provided by non-governmental organizations in addressing their needs. The study concludes with some viable suggestions for both prevention of the problem as well as easing the lives of women so abandoned. newline newline |
