Abstract: newline Over the past 20 years, in response to the global demand for lightweight, environmentally friendly, high-performing, and wear-resistant materials, researchers have increasingly turned their focus from monolithic metals like aluminium, magnesium, and titanium to composite materials. When compared with monolithic metals, Metal Matrix Composites (MMCs) are the most desired and popular materials because of their high stiffness, high strength-to-weight ratio, good corrosion and wear resistance properties. Generally aluminium alloys are applied in several industrial applications like ship building, truck frames, military bridges, and aerospace because of their lower cost and reduced weight factor, but they are not completely accepted by the industries due to their limited strength, toughness, and wear resistance. In order to exclude these limits, researchers are focusing on improving aluminium alloys by tailoring their mechanical properties by reinforcing ceramic particles and developing them as aluminium based matrix composites. Among various liquid-state processing methods, stir casting is one of the most effective and economical fabrication methods for composites. Although stir casting has some disadvantages, it is widely applied because of its efficient flexibility and economic advantage.
