Quality is widely acknowledged as a powerful instrument for success. Organizations implement Quality Management Systems (QMS) and make efforts for certification. Total Quality Management (TQM), Six Sigma, Just-in-Time (JIT) and Lean are well-known QMS. Six Sigma and Lean help improvement in bottom-line profitability through the removal of defects and reduction in waste, respectively. Despite the differences seen in the focus of Lean and Six Sigma, they agree in the emphasis on the customer. The term Lean Six Sigma (LSS) describes the program that integrates both, a merger that involves usage of tools from the toolboxes of both programs. LSS helps reduce the consumption of raw materials and energy apart from reducing scrap. An understanding of the key-to-success factors associated with a deployment helps achievement of success.
