Sexual offences against women a socio legal study with special reference to the state of Punjab

Abstract

My basic aim to study this topic is that in a country punctuated by unprecedented change, revolution and innovation, perhaps the most pervasive and lasting transformation has been the emergence of women as a major presence and force in public life, the world over. The increasing concern of the victims of violence and the need for change has to be voiced. In this thesis, my objective was to explore the possible linkages between masculinities and different forms of sexual exploitation and sexual violence against women, specifically with respect to State of Punjab. An ardent effort has been made to critically review existing literature, with particular forms on recommendations for action. Inspite of the fact that there are plethoras of statutory provisions describing various forms of sexual offences against women, yet the existing legal structure does not provide adequate protection to women. In cases of sexual crimes the rate of conviction is very low. The main idea of picking up this topic was that today, more than ever the cause of women is the cause of all humanity, as goes the well-known saying by Manu, the great Law giver, that where women are honoured, there resides the Gods . newline
