In the beginning of the study the researcher has observed that despite its initial promise to provide development through socialist approach, the Indian government s Special Economic Zone program, has given rise to popular mobilizations and mass protests that center on land acquisition and the related issues. According to researcher, the best way in which land acquisition related problems could be approached in order to take into account the socio-legal and economic factors, is to begin study with an analysis of the construction of property rights vis a vis power of eminent domain in the national and international perspective. At the national level, the provisions of the Indian Constitution, the Land Acquisition Act 1894, and new Land Acquisition Act 2013, SEZ Acts and policies followed by an examination of land acquisition on the ground through the survey in Gurgaon based on land acquisition incidents for SEZs, has been focused. The researcher has tried to explore how these laws operate in specific cases and further to understand what factors could be contributing to the land acquisition problems. The empirical part of the study, in a sense, is an exploration of the social-economic life of the land losers and also to know how India s current eminent domain regime has affected the life of the people. newline
