Abstract: The delayed repair of drug nephrotoxicity shall lead to chronic illness and heavy treatment costs Tinospora cordifolia Willd Miers Tc is used to treat kidney disorders the present experimental study assessed the protective and therapeutic effects of the Ethanolic extract of Tc stem ETc on Gentamicin G induced nephrotoxic changes at different time periods by evaluating the histological changes ETc was prepared and evaluated for phytochemical constituents and properties Sixty adult male Wistar Rats were assigned to the groups Control group Olive oil Nephrotoxicity group G Co treatment G along with ETc 8 days Toxicity cessation group G followed by Olive oil and Post treatment group G followed by ETc To induce nephrotoxicity G 100 mg per Kg was administered intraperitoneally for 8 days the ETc 400 mg per Kg and Olive Oil vehicle were administered orally for 1 2 and 3 weeks following nephrotoxicity induction Glycosides flavonoids quinone and coumarin were present in ETc The Serum and Urine parameters the reduction in kidney SOD CAT GPx activity and GSH levels and increase in the LPO due to G nephrotoxicity was resolved earlier upon ETc co and post treatment compared to the untreated recovery which correlated with the reparative changes in the renal tissue Quicker clearance of cellular debris in the PCT Co treatment Milder tissue damage and restoration of Volume fraction of the Tubules and Urinary space increased Tubular cell height PCT Axial ratio and Cross sectional Area of tubular epithelium indicated regenerative changes in the PCT in ETc Co treatment and Post treatment Week 2 when compared to Nephrotoxicity and Toxicity cessation Week 3 respectively The study adds impetus to the influence of ETc in modulating GSH level and substantiates attenuation of the G induced nephrotoxicity by TC on histomorphometric basis etc has proven to be therapeutic and protective plausibly due to the active antioxidant compounds present Hence etc shall benefit the kidney when taken along during as well as after the consumption of pote
