Abstract: The thesis entitled Synthesis, characterization, biological activity of Spiro and heterocyclic compounds is divided in to four chapters. newlineChapter 1: Synthesis and characterization of spirochromone derivatives by using (R) - pyroglutamic acid catalyst. newlineChapter 2: Synthesis of di-hydroquinazolines derivatives by using borane catalyst. newlineChapter 3: Synthesis of quinazoline derivatives by using K2S2O8 as catalyst. newlineChapter 4: Antimicrobial and antioxidant activities. newlineChapter 1: Synthesis and characterization of spirochromone derivatives by using (R)-pyroglutamic acid catalyst. newlineThe first chapter of the thesis describes synthesis of spirochromone derivatives by using (R)-pyroglutamic acid as catalyst. This protocol allows easy access to different substituted derivatives of spirochromones with diverse functional group tolerance. Spirochromones scaffold has diverse and important biological activity against various cell lines. The chromone containing molecules well known in the literature, many natural products and pharmaceutical molecules contain chromone moiety. newlineChromene ring is widely occurred heterocycle in nature, it is the main core unit of flavonoids, xanthones, coumaroin, and naphthoquinones, which shows diverse biological activities for many important drugs.Chr omone belongs to family of flavonoids and it can be divided into subclasses, i.e. chalcones, flavanones, flavones, isoflavones, biflavones, flavonols, flavanonols, flavan-3-ols, anthocyanidins, aurones, coumarins, and catechins. newlineIn the literature there are many biologically important chromene containing natural products are reported and some modified synthesized biologically active molecules, like Nedocromil is treated for asthma related problems in the patients (Fig. 1), The ethuliacoumarion. A drug shows anthelmintic activity and treated for anthelmintic related problems.
