Land grants of early medieval northern India a socio economic perspective from 600 CE TO 1200 CE

Abstract

The thorough study of land grant charters seems to have perfected one impression upon our mind that the basis of life on this earth is purely economic, let it then influence the other aspects of the life of social beings, be it social, religious or political. It all culminates into one uniform condition that is certainly estuary of human activities where all pour into a single ocean. The chapters in my thesis analyzed the various aspects as reflected by the land grants charters of early medieval northern India. We traced the definition of a peasant in the Indian context and its identification with the several other workers which are or are not sometimes included in the peasantry. Thesis went on to examine the economic dimensions of land grants and its social repercussions. At last the structural and other features of grant, right from its content, style, and language was discussed thoroughly. But foremost to all, a historical background, which led to all these developments in early medieval northern India, has been provided significant space in our thesis. newline
