The present study was envisaged to understand the relationship between immune response and chemopreventive effect of differential ratios of fish oil and corn oil in experimentally induced colon cancer. The effect of the different ratios of FO and CO on the immune response was estimated in isolated intraepithelial (IELs) and lamina propria lymphocytes (LPLs) by analyzing the following parameters: newlinei. Analysis of CD4+ T cell population newlineii. CD8+ T cells analysis newlineiii. Dendritic cell analysis newlineiv. Estimation of DHA levels in isolated lymphocytes newlineThe present study suggests for the first time that fish oil/n-3 PUFAs supplementation in diet led to major change in the immune response in tumor micro environment which may be related to the lipid alteration in the immune cells. These alterations make the immune response more anti-tumorigenic and make tumor cells more susceptible to immune attack. FO (n-3 PUFA) supplementation in a dose dependent manner appeared to activate the immune response and may be further attenuating the process of carcinogenesis. newline newline
