Abstract: | The aim of the present investigation was to enhance transdermal delivery of Anti-Alzheimer Drugs (Donepezil, Memantine and Curcumin) by loading drug in the transdermal patches in the form of nanoparticles, for the treatment of Alzheimer s disease. In the current study attempts were made to fabricate and characterize the nanoparticle incorporated transdermal patches to overcome the inconveniences of oral dose. OBJECTIVES: 1. To fabricate novel transdermal patches for selected Anti-Alzheimer drugs. 2. To target the delivery of drugs (Donepezil, Memantine and Curcumin) to the site of action, using nanoparticles incorporated in transdermal patches. The present investigation revealed that nanoprecipitation is a promising technique for the preparation of nanoparticles likewise solvent casting was a simple and cost effective technique for the fabrication of transdermal patches. Polymeric nanoparticles are capable of crossing the Blood Brain Barrier with high drug loading capacities. Transdermal patches can deliver the drugs in a sustained manner and thereby overcome the side effects of oral administration. The incorporation of drug loaded nanoparticles in the transdermal patches can be used as an effective tool for the treatment of Alzheimer s disease. In conclusion, treatment with combination of Donepezil, Memantine and Curcumin transdermal patches could be of significant value in protecting the brain from memory dysfunction. IMPACT OF THE STUDY: The findings revealed that the problems of oral administration of Donepezil, Memantine and Curcumin can be overcome by administering these drugs in the form of transdermal patch. The combination of Donepezil, Memantine and Curcumin in the form of transdermal patches can be used in the treatment of Alzheimer s. Dementia makes self-medication practically very difficult so it would be helpful to apply a transdermal patch type of formulation with prolonged drug action for Alzheimer patients. Further studies can be conducted in human subjects to make the research useful for society. |
