Abstract: | Closed-cell aluminum foams have garnered worldwide attention due to their outstanding mechanical properties, such as being stiff and light and absorbing large deflections and energy. These properties make them a potential candidate for various lightweight structural and energy-absorbing applications. However, the scientific community is still interested in further improving the mechanical properties of foams. Thus, the development of stable closed-cell foams with superior mechanical properties is an active area of research. newlineAluminum foams are primarily produced using two methods: melt route and powder route. This thesis work exploits the melt route for processing aluminum foams using titanium hydride(TiH2) as a blowing agent. Generally, aluminum(Al) melts dispersed with non-metallic particles can be foamed in the melt-route foaming process. The non-metallic particles are either added from outside(ex-situ) or formed inside(in-situ) the melt to be foamed newline |
