dc.description.abstractThe demand for the English language is increasing daily worldwide, with its global popularity on the rise. The position of English as a dominant language is not accidental but stems from its historical association with British colonialism and its subsequent spread as a lingua franca. Linguistic imperialism and linguistic hegemony have been topics of discussion among sociolinguists and English language teaching (ELT) experts. English has been seen as a language deliberately spread to serve American and British interests, and it has been referred to as a quotkiller languagequot that marginalizes and diminishes minority languages. This has been the case for many Indigenous and North American languages that have been overshadowed by English. The dominance of English leads to bias and discrimination against those who do not speak English or cannot speak it proficiently. newlineThe present study has investigated some of the aspects of linguistic hegemony of English language on the students of Department of English, Faculty of Education, Hodeidah University. The study aims to explore whether there is linguistic hegemony of English language on these students, and identify the specific aspects of linguistic hegemony that affect them. Additionally, the study seeks to identify forms of resistance that can be employed to counter English language hegemony among the students. The research follows a quantitative descriptive research approach, converting the collected data into numerical representations using quantitative tools. As a result, the current research is both descriptive and analytical. Therefore, the study is both descriptive and analytical, employing a field study to examine the aspects of linguistic hegemony of English language among the students. newlineData for the study were collected through a questionnaire distributed via Google Form to the respondents of the sample of the study.
