The Importance of Audio Visual aids in English Language Teaching in Schools

Abstract

The proposed research will focus on communicative competence in a comprehensible and organized way. The first chapter is introductory in nature. This chapter discusses the significance of audio visual aids in foreign language teaching. It presents a general background to audio visual aids and their importance in education, especially in view of modern developments in educational technology and the limitations of the printed text; together with literature review and specific research questions. Chapter 2 discusses the methodology for data gathering in the research, reasons for selecting the method, procedure for selecting the study population and the problems encountered. Chapter 3 sheds light on the definition and types of audios- visual aids. It also highlights the role of audio visual aids in teaching of English, advantages of audio visual aids and an overview of audio visual aids. The fourth chapter highlights the use of audio visual aids in different areas of English language teaching. It mainly focuses on teaching of vocabulary to primary school students. The fifth chapter discusses the significance of AVA for Deaf and Hard hearing students. It might be seen as one of such instances where different worlds are brought together towards a better understanding of the subject. It attempts to bring forth the relevance of audio visual aids in motivating learners, brings the real world into the classroom, contextualizes language naturally and enables learners to experience authentic language in a controlled environment.
