Abstract: The ligand chemistry of Polydentate Schiff Base (PSB) donors has been the most attractive research areas of inorganic chemistry. The Schiff Bases are well known to coordinate with various metal ions to form metallic-complex with theoretical and practical applications of different types. A large number of Schiff Base ligands having imine linkages can be synthesized by the reaction between carbonyl compound and amines. These ligand systems have gained considerable importance because of their utility as model compounds in bio organic studies as well as their potential as catalysts in many reactions. They find application in the determination of transition metal ions in the study of acid base equilibrium acidity constant value and for analytical purposes. Transition metal complexes of Schiff Bases have a number of uses for example pigments and dyes for cotton and wool, synthetic fibers and plastics, photographic emulsions, heat resistant polymers, high temperature stabilizers for lubrication oils, inhibitors against acid corrosion of metals and alloys, ant knocking agents and burning rate modifiers, polyolefin stabilizers, liquid crystal display composition, fungicides, insecticides algaecides plant growth regulators enzymatic decarboxylation catalyst enzymatic aldolization catalyst, antiviral, antibiotic, anesthetic agents, O2 carries in biological system, antituberculosis, antitumor and anticancer agents etc justifying the importance of these studies. In the present Ph.D project, the complexes of CoII ,NiII, CuII,ZnII,CdII,HgII with new series of Schiff Base ligand will be synthesized and newly formed complex will be characterized by their elemental analysis, magnetic moment, infrared spectroscopy, NMR spectroscopy, electronic spectroscopy. The various crystal field parameters will be determined from the spectroscopic data. newline newlineSpectroscopic Characterization of Some Schiff Base Complexes of newlineCoII,NiII, CuII, ZnII, CdII, HgII newlineThe ligand chemistry of Polydentate Schiff Base (PSB) donors has been the most attract.
