Abstract: | The objective of this thesis is to formulate a new class of organosilane compounds with a triazole moiety for their use in biological applications and for the detection of heavy metals in aqueous solutions. The silane fragment gives the molecule its surface modification characteristics, while the triazole group is responsible for its intriguing biological role. The resulting hybrid has both organic and inorganic groups within the same framework, which may newlineresult in an alliance of their properties. Further, the current research effort is concentrated on creating new molecular sensors for the detection of metal ions. Traditional techniques for metal recognition such as atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), inductively coupled plasma/mass spectroscopy (ICP MS), inductively coupled plasma/atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP AES), X-ray fluorescence spectroscopy (XRF), potentiometric methodology, ion selective electrodes and electrochemical processes have been widely investigated, but these methodologies are very expensive, time-consuming and demand trained operators. In addition, the synthesized compound s biological activity against various bacteria and their antioxidant characteristics were assessed, broadening their potential in the field of drug discovery. newline newline |
