Abstract: | Nanostructured materials have been intensively studied in recent years particularly because the physical properties of these materials are quite different from those of the bulk. It is no exaggeration to say that a revolutionary breakthrough has been made in this area. For instance, large changes in the magnetic properties, opacity, catalytic properties, resistivity, melting point and certain mechanical properties among others have been observed in materials on reducing their grain sizes to the nanoscale. Much of the fascination with nanomaterials arises from the unique quantum and surface phenomena that matter exhibits at the nanoscale to which most of the above property changes can be attributed. |
