Role of women in Panchayati raj institutions with special reference to tehsil Chopal HP

Abstract

In this particular study the aim was to measure the role of women in Panchayati Raj Institutions in tehsil Chopal. There are 54 village panchayats in tehsil Chopal and the researcher have interviewed about 208 elected women representatives, 28 of them are Sarpanch and others are ward members. The researcher has discussed with the elected women representatives in Chopal. Thus through analysing the collected data the researcher has found some problems which the women members are facing and some suggestions have been given which can effectively increase their more participation in the PRI s. The purpose of this study is to analyse the feedback given by the women respondents so that the problems can be identified which they are facing as the elected representatives in the village panchayats. Thus it is important to correlate and analyse the negative and positive inputs of women representatives in rural areas of Himachal Pradesh and particularly in tehsil Chopal. This way the researcher tries to look out for the suggestions and solutions which enable them to participate in decision making process more effectively.
