Abstract: The study examining the development-environment interface pertaining to 1951-2011period; partitioned into time periods- 1951 to 1971 and 1971 onwards. The study thus spans over more than six decades. In consonance with the objectives of presenting a geographical analysis of development and the environment in Manipur state in the broader context of North-East India, the thesis undertook to provide answers to the main environmental problems, ecological problems differ between the two main ecosystems, Hill and Valley, in Manipur state, ecological imbalances threatened or not the traditional mode of existence and the role of state government in promotion of ecology and environment in Manipur etc. newline
