Law of geographical indications a comparative study with special reference to India and European Union

Geographical Indication offers potential business development benefits since they tend to involves entire regions and impact not only to producers but also traders, processors, exporters. Geographical Indication reflects standards, traceability and certain above average quality. Geographical Indications may provide a measure of protection for the intellectual or cultural property of a particular place. The benefits of Geographical Indications are consumer benefits, producer s benefits, social benefits, and environment benefits and support of fair competition. This topic of research has intrinsic importance. Countries like India, having variety of Traditional Knowledge, are in need to development and research in the field of Geographical Indications. About 90% of Geographical Indications come from the 30 OECD Countries, while the rest all countries confine within 10%. This topic, Geographical Indications is hardly studied in academic literature.
