A study of single nucleotide polymorphisms in candidate genes associated with asthma in north Indian population

Abstract

The present study was conducted with the aim to reveal the genetic aspect of asthma by studying SNPs in various candidate genes on a total of 964 subjects. Most of the patients were recruited from Chandigarh, Haryana and Punjab that include 483 healthy controls (191 males and 290 females) and 481 asthma patients (189 males and 294 females) for analysing the association of SNPs with the disease among the North Indian population. All the exclusion as well as inclusion criteria were strictly followed for both the categories to avoid the false positive factors in study determination. The ethical clearance for the study was granted by the Ethics Committee, PGIMER, Chandigarh, India, vide approval memo no. PG-1Trg-10 on 21.9.2010, for conducting the research work on human blood samples and only those patients fulfilling the criteria of GINA guidelines were enrolled. The age-matched, without family history and respiratory symptoms healthy control blood samples were collected to perform statistical analysis. newline
