Abstract: | newlineThe rapid change in urban areas and the exponential population growth increased municipal solid waste generation in Nashik City. The management of the disposal of MSW is an important and complex process. Although, Landfilling is the most common engineering method used to dispose of municipal solid waste environment-friendly. At the same time, identifying a suitable landfill site for the disposal of MSW is a difficult task. Unscientific disposal of MSW brings a remarkable change in the physical, engineering, and biochemical properties of MSW, which is responsible for landfill design failures, leading to environmental pollution. Therefore bioreactor landfill is one of the recent technologies used in India now a days. Henceforth, finding the engineering properties of MSW with changing biodegradation is necessary. newlineAlthough the physical, engineering and biochemical properties of MSW have extensively been studied, very few researchers were reported to work on the behavior and composition of MSW with degradation levels in a large bioreactor simulator. However, the behavior of MSW is unpredictable with biodegradation due to its heterogeneous nature. The bioreactor landfills studies have not been explored in India. Very few studies reported the operation of bioreactor simulators with a predefined composition of MSW. There is a need to examine this subject to continuously monitor bioreactor simulators during the long-term degradation of municipal solid waste. newlineFurthermore, the landfill site suitability has been studied and identified using Multicriteria decision analysis and geographical Information System GIS. However, due to the limitation of consistency ratio, artificial intelligence with AHP is focused. newlineThe physical, engineering and biochemical properties of MSW for landfill design undergoing biodegradation and landfill site suitability using GIS are investigated in this study. Laboratory tests were conducted on MSW collected from over five different Solid Waste Management Plant locations, Vilholi Nashik |
