Abstract: | Objective: The objective of this epidemiological study was to investigate the characteristics and outcomes of craniofacial trauma among patients with head injuries presenting to the emergency department of a tertiary hospital. newlineMethods: A prospective analysis was conducted using data collected from the electronic medical records of patients admitted to the emergency department of a tertiary hospital over a specified period. Patients diagnosed with both craniofacial trauma and head injury were included in the study. Demographic information, mechanism of injury, injury severity scores were extracted and analysed. newlineResults: A total of 208 patients with craniofacial trauma and head injury were identified during the study period. The majority of patients were male (69%), with a mean age of 29.55 years. The most common mechanism of injury was road traffic accidents (80%), followed by assaults (20%). The injury severity scores indicated a range of severity, with 80% of patients classified as mild, 9% as moderate, and 11% as severe. newlineConclusion: This study provides valuable insights into the epidemiology of craniofacial trauma in patients with head injuries presenting to the emergency department of a tertiary hospital. Understanding the characteristics and outcomes of these injuries is crucial for healthcare providers to optimize patient management and improve outcomes. newline |
