Production Characterization and Biological Evaluation of pigments and Enzyme Alginate Lyase from Actinomycetes

Abstract

Actinomycetes are prokaryotic organisms and are source of natural products, antibiotics, newlineand many other bioactive metabolites. The present study aims to isolate Actinomycetes newlineable to produce bioactive pigments and enzyme alginate lyase. Terrestrial woodland soil newlinesamples were used to isolate the Actinomycetes. Lake and rhizosphere soil samples were newlinecollected from the Dharwad district region, part of Karnataka, India. Altogether, twenty newlineisolates were obtained using standard pure culture techniques and starch casein medium newline(SCM). Phenotypic properties, biochemical studies, and 16S rRNA gene sequencing newlinefurther characterized two isolates capable of producing pigments and enzymes. The two newlineisolates were identified as Streptomyces sp. BJZ6 and BJZ10. Rhodococcus sp. NCIM 5126 newlinewas used as a reference organism throughout the studies. We evaluated the ability of the newlineisolates and reference organisms to produce pigment and enzyme alginate lyase. The newlineorganisms Rhodococcus sp. NCIM 5126, Streptomyces sp. BJZ6, and Streptomyces sp. newlineBJZ10 were found to be producers of pigments and alginate lyase.
