Abstract: This thesis presents the measurement of the differential cross section for the production of a Z boson in association with jets in proton-proton collisions in the LHC at European Center for Nuclear Research (CERN), Geneva, Switzerland. The differential cross section measurements provide an important contribution to the understanding of the perturbative quantum chromodynamics theory. The present thesis also includes work done on quality monitoring and certification of the data collected by the CMS detector, which were further used to improve results. newline
