The eminence of nanoferrites lies in their chemical and thermally stable nature, facile synthetic procedures, cost effectiveness and facile nature towards different modifications. Amongst all, spinel nanoferrites have attracted much attention which could be due to its excellent magnetic properties, composition and wide applicability in different fields. Interestingly, in the structure of spinel ferrites, octahedral sites are exposed upon the surface while tetrahedral sites are present in the bulk. Metal ions present in the octahedral site are responsible for the catalytic behavior of the spinel ferrite due to which spinel nanoferrites can be efficiently used as heterogeneous catalyst. Owing to their inherent magnetic character, spinel nanoferrites can also be used as support for other catalyst via different possible modifications. The present work deals with the synthesis, detailed characterization and applicability of differently modified ferrite based nanostructures as catalysts and adsorbents. newline
