This thesis is a study of the laws relating to data protection in Outsourcing Companies in the Indian legal and regulatory landscape. Laws in India and the developed countries like United States and England are changing continuously in light of rapid technological developments. Trans-national companies are facilitators and key drivers of globalisation in the outsourcing industry in India. India has honoured its responsibility under international law, by signing international conventions on data protection and cyber crimes. In domestic sphere in India Information Technology Act, 2000 along with various rules under this Act and parts of other legislations are the key component of legal regulation on this industry. The legal and regulatory landscape is still evolving in India. There is a strong need for comprehensive bill on data protection, and the possibility of a separate bill for companies on data protection exists. The self-regulation by companies in the subject industry in India complements to the legal regulation to an extent and partially fills the gap which exists in the legal and regulatory framework for protection of data of these companies. Such self-regulation is limited to the internal policies and procedures of these companies. Law should facilitate broader legislation in such a way, that legal regulation and self-regulation work together and form an effective legal framework in this sector. newline
