Abstract: | The present study aims to explore the role of emotional intelligence, parenting style and attachment style as a predictor for Borderline personality disorder. The research was conducted on young adults (18-22 years). Borderline personality questionnaire (BPQ) was administered randomly on 480 young adults for the purpose of screening. The individuals who did not fall in the clinical category of BPD were excluded. A total of 170 participants were selected as the final sample for the present study. The participants were presented with the Trait emotional Intelligence Questionnaire (TEIQue-SF), The Scale of Parenting Style and Revised Adult Attachment Scale- close relationship version questionnaires to be filled. The data was analysed using chi-square and multiple regression. The results showed that individuals with high emotional intelligence are negatively related to BPD, individuals with authoritative and authoritarian parents scored low on BPD, whereas, individuals with neglectful and permissive parents scored high on BPD. The overall chi square results showed a highly significant association between BPD and Attachment style. In the regression analysis of BPD with anxiety, close and dependent attachment style, it was found that anxiety attachment style was positively related to BPD, which means high anxiety attachment leads to high BPD scores, but close and dependent attachment style had no significant effect on BPD. newline |
