Abstract: Unlike Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA), PMUs newlineemploy the Global Positioning System (GPS) to record timesynchronized measurements of voltage, current, and frequency that can newlineprovide grid operators with information about what is happening, where newlineit is happening, and when. Their accuracy in physical measurement, time newlineresolution, and cross-referencing capabilities offer a greater newlineunderstanding of physical power flows as compared to typical sensor newlinedata. Operators and planners can use this information to manage the newlineincreased level of unpredictability, uncertainty, and opportunity in the newlinemodern grid newline
