Flexural Response of Steel Fibre Reinforced Concrete Long Beams

Abstract

The behaviour of SFRC long beams is an area of research which has recently gained attention. Many research studies have primarily focused their efforts on the shear strength of SFRC slender beams, but almost nothing is published about the flexural performance of these SFRC long/slender beams. The long beams are relatively uncommon and are rarely encountered in reinforced cement concrete constructions. Since, they are vulnerable to buckle in flexure-torsion manner and decreased flexural capacity owing to slenderness effects (in the form of lateral deflections and twisting). newlineThe reinforced concrete codes for construction across the globe attempts to address the aforementioned problem of buckling by regulating the size of the beam, by ensuring the limits on the slenderness of the beam, but is silent on the issue of reduction in flexural strength capacity owing to slenderness. Even though there is progress being made on SFRC long beams, there is no theoretical model that can ascertain the slenderness limits for these beams such that the flexural behaviour be understood. newline newline
