An Analysis of inter Regional Disparities in Social Sector Development and Its Impact on Economic Development in Jammu Division

Abstract

Social Sector development is a pre-requisite for the economic development of any nation. The process of economic growth largely depends upon the rate and the directions of the development of social sector which in turn, is determined by the process of economic growth. Although social sector is a wider term and includes various components such as education, sports, art and culture, public health and family welfare, water supply, sanitation, housing, urban development, upliftment of disadvantaged and under-privileged sections of the society like schedule castes, schedule tribes and other backward classes but education and health are the most important components of social sector The prime focus of the study is to highlight the inter-regional disparities in the social sector with special reference to the education sector and health sector and to analyse its impact on economic development. It has been found after study that there has been slight reduction in regional disparities during the study period. It is also found that there is strong impact of social sector development on economic development of Jammu Division. newline
