Abstract: | Free space optics (FSO) is an optical communication technique that allows optical connectivity by transmitting data through the transmission of light in space. The sole difference between FSO and optical fibre cable networks is that optical beams are transmitted through open air in case of FSO rather than a glass fibre core in case of optical fibre cable. An optical transceiver is used in the FSO system at both ends to enable full duplex connectivity. FSO is a line of sight technology that allows for full duplex connectivity with a potential 10 Gbps data rate for data, phone and video transmission. The ever increasing demand for high-channel bandwidth in wireless communication links has motivated the need of research in optical wireless communication, also referred as free space optics (FSO) communication. The research work reported in this thesis aims at the development and performance analysis of high-speed optical wireless links using advanced multiplexing techniques and modulation formats for wireless applications. The proposed work has been simulated in OptisystemTM software and the link performance is analyzed using different performance metrics such as signal to noise ratio (SNR), received power, bit error rate (BER), quality factor (Q Factor), eye diagrams, and constellation plots. newline |
