Abstract: | Compression Ignition Engines are regarded as a vital part of public transport vehicles, power generation sector and for agricultural applications. The unreliability of petroleum-based fuel availability and the harmful emissions by the fossil fuels have enforced the world in search of alternate fuels. Hydrogen, Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and Biodiesel from edible and non-edible oils develop a good attribute from the stand points of emitting fewer pollutants to the atmosphere, abundant availability, intensive performance and exclusively renewable in nature. In the present work, a four stroke, single cylinder, compression ignition engine was used to conduct the experiments using Oxy-hydrogen gas (HHO), CNG, Karanja Oil Methyl Ester (KOME) blends of KOME 10 and KOME 20 along with diesel which was used as a pilot injection fuel to initiate the ignition for gaseous fuels and blending purpose for liquid biodiesel. All the experiments were conducted at a constant speed of 1500 rpm and the Brake Mean Effective Pressures (BMEP) were varied from 1.5 to 5.4 bar. The performance, emission and combustion characteristics were studied and the results were analyzed and compared. All the tests were repeated with 5, 10 and 15 % of Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR). newline |
