Abstract: | Herbal medicines have been used since ancient times as effective ways for prevention and treatment of different illnesses. In recent years their use has increased dramatically. Although traditional drugs can be used as new therapies for researchers, they need to be reformulated to access pharmacopoeia standards for modern drugs. Lack of the quality control profiles for the plant formulations drives scientists to explore more about the plant products. Formulation quality control plays an important role in confirming the safety and efficacy of the product. Medicinal plants contain several natural bio-active compounds with therapeutic potency used to synthesize several drug formulations. The multifaceted benefits of polyherbal formulations have been a focus of extensive research, but a systematic approach is required to harness their full potential. The present study aimed to develop polyherbal syrup formulation containing Aegle marmelos, Bombax ceiba, Hibiscus rosa sinensis and Moringa oleifera extracts, optimize them through the quality by design approach, and evaluate their physicochemical, anti oxidant and microbiological quality. Preformulation and preliminary stability studies were carried out with 18 polyherbal syrup formulation stored at room temperature, evaluating aspect, color, odor, pH, viscosity etc. With the aid of the DOE (Design expert) software, the DOE methodology was applied through experimental screening and optimization designs. newline |
