Physicochemical and Biological Studies of Metal Complexes of 1 and 2 Naphthoquinone Oximes with Oxo Metals

Abstract

The present work summarized in this thesis includes the synthesis of transition metal newlinecomplexes belonging to d block elements. Complexes of isomeric 1,2-Naphthoquinone-1- newlineoxime and 1,2-Naphthoquinone-2-oxime were prepared with metal salts. They are positional newlineisomer of each other. Metal salts like Ammonium molybdate tetrahydrate, Sodium tungstate, newlineVanadyl sulphate hydrate and Zirconyl chloride octahydrate were used. Oxo molybdenum and newlineoxo tungsten chelates of 1,2-Naphthoquinone mono oximes were prepared by a simple method newlineat room temperature, while oxo vanadium and oxo zirconium chelates of 1,2-Naphthoquinone newlinemono oxime were synthesized at 80 0C temperature. newlineThe structures of oxo-metal chelate were determined using analytical and spectral newlinetechniques such as TGA, XRD, IR, FAR-IR, UV-VIS, 1H NMR and 13C NMR. The newlineantimicrobial and anthelmintic activity of both ligands along with their oxo-metal chelates was newlinetested and the outcomes were compared. newlineThe particle size of all compounds was within the nanoscale. The ligands and their oxometal newlinechelates were screened for biological activity. Noteworthy antimicrobial activity is newlineshown by oxo-metal chelates against selected organisms. The anthelmintic activity revealed newlinethat, at all concentrations, oxo-metal chelates are more effective than standard albendazole. newlineThe results are indicative of their medicinal importance to human life. newline
