Abstract: | Iron based chromium aluminium alloys strengthened through rare earth oxide dispersoids are known as ODS alloys They are newlineoften produced through mechanical alloying via the PM route and are known for their excellent high temperature strength and newlineexcellent resistance to oxidation carburization and hot corrosion These attributes make them an ideal material for gas turbine combustion chamber components of advanced energy conservation systems components of petrochemical industries in newlinesulphur based atmosphere and many other applications involving rigorous service conditions The state of the art on these newlinematerials reveals that they are fabricated by a sophisticated processing technology employing costly raw materials in the form newlineof inert gas atomized powders with very low oxygen and interstitial contents The full potential of these materials is newlinedeveloped through controlled thermomechanical processing which enables dense products to be developed with greatly reduced anisotropy The high point of the investigation has been the development of technology for designing and newlinedeveloping suitable Fe based ODS alloys using the P M route The special attributes have been the utilization of low cost ordinary newlinequality raw materials available from indigenous sources The present investigation highlights the technological aspects of developing ODS alloys economically The data thus obtained has been appropriately discussed based on fundamental considerations |
