Abstract: | The paradigm of gender studies with its evolving thoughts and conceptions on sexual preferences and gendered representations has yielded rich insights into the emerging perceptions on queer culture. The resurgence of ethnic communities as units of indigenous culture has now become an essential element in the discussion of cultural identities in transition. The scholarly focus on the subject of gender neutrality has considerably progressed ever since the beginning of post-colonial approaches to literature. With the advent of advanced researches on queer studies, the focus has been to explore and examine the ways in which the privileging of gender operates to institutionalize certain expressions of sexuality while stigmatizing the others. The queer tradition deconstructs the basic ideologies of gender identities encouraging plural and unfettered negotiations of cultural phenomena. Queer theory affirms that the sexual inclinations, the gender expressions, the other associated identities and their relative grading into normal or deviant have laid the path open for an advanced deconstruction of the prevailing judgements on sex and gender. Any research on trans discourse is arguably incomplete without a comprehensive evaluation of the nature of homogeneous communities. A glance at the contemporary world implies that whatever be the justification, the most pertinent division among people is neither political nor economic but cultural. It is interesting to quote Samuel P Huntington who convincingly states in his work The Clash of Civilizations and the Remaking of World Order, In this new world the most pervasive , important and dangerous conflicts will not be between social classes , rich and poor , or other economically defined groups , but between people belonging to different cultural entities. newline |
