A cephalopod is any member of the molluscan class newlineCephalopoda such as a squid, octopus, cuttlefish, or nautilus. These marine newlineanimals are characterized by bilateral body symmetry, a prominent head, and newlinea set of arms or tentacles (muscular hydrostats) modified from the primitive newlinemolluscan foot. Fishers sometimes call cephalopods quotinkfishquot, referring to newlinetheir common ability to squirt ink. The study of cephalopods is a branch newlineof malacology known as teuthology. newlineThe identification of cephalopod species is traditionally based on newlinethe examination of morphological features using identification keys or newlinespecies descriptions. It is a difficult task that necessitates manual and direct newlineobservation of cephalopods by marine scientists. Manual observation and newlineidentification takes time and is always dependent on the involvement of newlineexperts. An automated system that classifies and separates the cephalopod newlinespecies into different categories will ease the process. There are certain newlineinvestigations carried out to facilitate automated recognition of Cephalopods. newline newline
