Abstract: | In the fast growing population, housing for individual is becoming a crisis. The role of construction industry at present is focusing on the alternate sustainable source that may help in preserving the resources for the future generation. As it is prominent that concrete is good in compression and week in flexural behavior, steel is preferred to offer tensile property to the structural elements made of concrete. Steel and Concrete used in the construction industry have risen exponentially as they are famous for its potential in strength, durability and ease of handling. Production of Steel and cement evolves green gases like CO2 into the atmosphere which may deplete the ozone if an alternate for these are not identified in a right time. There are many researches going on to change the concrete constituent materials due to their resource shortage and to enrich the mechanical and durability properties of the concrete. In the recent days, the near future there is a boom in the construction industry mainly in the steel structures. Soon there will be an escalation in cost and shortage of raw materials are forecasted to happen with steel. In many developing countries steel is still more expensive and in limited supply. Hence, researchers focus on replacing steel partially or fully with natural or synthetic fiber. Bamboo is known to have abundant mechanical properties that would recommend it to be used in replacing steel in RC elements. Moreover steel is relatively costlier than any other material proposed for the same purpose. This research demonstrates the study of Bamboo with and without epoxy coating used as a replacement for steel reinforcement. newline |
