Abstract: Radio Frequency (RF) energy harvesting systems have gained newlineremarkable consideration for Cognitive Radio (CR) technology to expand newlineenergy efficiency and spectral efficiency simultaneously. CR is an intelligent newlineradio network technology in which unlicensed users, referred to as the newlineSecondary Users (SU), are expected to detect and occupy the idle licensed RF newlinespectrum of the licensed users or Primary Users (PU). A fixed node in a CR newlinecan be supplied with a constant power supply from an AC source. However, a newlinemobile node of CR must operate using a battery source. CR functionalities, newlinesuch as spectrum sensing and access, require periodic spectrum monitoring newlineand data transmission, which consumes a lot of energy. Consequently, to newlineensure continuous energy supply to the mobile CR nodes, battery charging or newlinereplacement is inevitable. As an alternative solution, CR nodes can be newlineequipped with RF energy harvesting capabilities.
